What is an apostille?

An apostille is a certification issued by the Secretary of State that verifies a notary public’s signature for use in another country.

Can the California Secretary of State apostille my out of state document?

No. The California Secretary of State can only validate California issued documents.

Does my document need to be notarized first?

Most documents must be notarized before they can receive an apostille. We can check your document for completeness and apostille requirements.

Do you notarize documents as well?

Yes. Mobile notary services are available by appointment and scheduled based on availability.

How long does it take?

Standard: 2–5 business days.

Priority: Faster turnaround with front-of-run placement.

Same Day: Available when confirmed by 10am, subject to document readiness and state processing.

Do you handle emergency requests?

Yes. For urgent or time-sensitive documents, after-hours requests may be accommodated based on availability. Processing is subject to California Secretary of State business hours.

What if my document is rejected?

If a document is not accepted due to incomplete or incorrect notarization, we will notify you. Additional fees may apply for resubmission. Acceptance is determined by the Secretary of State.

Do I need to be present?

No. Document drop-off and coordination are arranged in advance.

How do I get started?

Yes. Each signer must appear in person before the notary at the time of notarization.

What to know:

• All signers must be present
• Bring a valid government-issued photo ID
• Do not sign in advance (if required)
• Ensure the document is complete (no blanks)
   

Important:

• The notary cannot prepare documents or provide legal advice.
• The notary cannot choose the notarization type.
• Your document must include notarial wording or you must confirm the required notarization.

Acceptable ID must be current or issued within the last 5 years and include a photo, description, signature, and identifying number.

Examples:

• Driver’s License or State ID
• U.S. Passport
• U.S. Military ID

Temporary, photocopied, or digital IDs are not accepted.

Expired ID may be accepted if issued within the last 5 years.
If you do not have ID, two credible witnesses may be required.

Documents must be signed in the notary’s presence when required.

Copies cannot be notarized unless signed in front of the notary.

Certified copies are limited to Powers of Attorney.

Payment is due at the time of service.
